KINGFISHER SWIMMING POOL, SUDBURY, CLOSED BY OFFICER DECISION
Babergh's Director for Property, Development and Regeneration decided on 16 September 2026 "to close Kingfisher Swimming Pool due to significant health and safety concerns". The decision record, published on 25 September, states that the decision is not a key decision and is not subject to call-in. It records that the alternative of keeping the pool open with an inspection regime was rejected because of difficulties in inspecting concealed deteriorating areas and because the survey evidence could not guarantee people's safety. The council's news release of 17 September states that the pool at Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury has been closed, after surveys showed that it requires a complete rebuild. The Forthcoming Decisions List now carries an item, "Kingfisher Swimming Pool Update and Next Steps", for Babergh Cabinet on 10 November 2026; part of it is marked exempt.

THE COUNTDOWN
The Government withdrew its March 2026 decision to replace Suffolk's six councils with three unitary councils on 7 September 2026, pending a review. The councils' joint Local Government Reorganisation page continues to state that district and borough council elections in Suffolk will take place in May 2027 on existing council boundaries, that the planned shadow unitary council elections will not go ahead, and that plans for devolution, including the election of a mayor for Suffolk and Norfolk in 2028, are continuing.
The Vesting Day set by the withdrawn decision, 1 April 2028, is 548 days away; that date is suspended while the review takes place, and no revised timetable has been published.
This week: no new announcements. The Forthcoming Decisions List of 30 September (V501) continues not to list the "Funding Suffolk Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) Transition Budget" item that was removed from the list in September.
